How come a months ago no one cared about Haiti? Now there is an earthquake and suddenly the Hebrew God is targeted again as the bad guy and the voodoo in Haiti is good and innocent and provides for children?
It’s something about a noble cause. All the better if everyone who can give a little does so. Late is better than never.
It is apparent Voodoo etc. is not helping Haiti.
Nobody gives credit to God when something good happens. I’d like to see spotlights on various ministries, whether Christian (as I am) or otherwise, after the rescue effort is complete, not just when an earthquake happens.
“How come a months (sic) ago no one cared about Haiti?”
That’s simply not true.
“Now there is an earthquake and suddenly the Hebrew God is targeted again as the bad guy and the voodoo in Haiti is good and innocent and provides for children?”
If atheists ask about your god letting it happen, they’re doing so from your perspective, to try and make you realize that it’s just not possible that he’s both benevolent and omnipotent. And your voodoo comments, I won’t even touch. That’s completely out of left field. I’ve never known anyone, in my entire life, to say anything even remotely resembling that statement.
And as for why we want to try to help – atheists and theists alike – it’s because fellow human beings are suffering. It really is that simple. Peace
If Pat Robertson had not opened his mouth and said something so totally ignorant and racist, maybe that wouldn’t have happened. Haitians never made a pack with the devil. During the Revolution there were some who returned to their indigenous religion logically concluding that the religion of the white slave-owners must be evil. This didn’t happen during the time of Napoleon III, who lived fifty years later, but during the French Revolution. Like the French, there were times when the Haitians rejected the Catholic church, but the leader of the revolution Toussaint L’Ouverture restored the privileges of the Church in in 1800. Most Haitians today are Catholics but about a quarter of the population is Evangelical. For some reason, they weren’t spared the effects of the earthquake either.
Because it looks good. Feigned righteousness… sympathy, to, from people like Paris Hilton will ultimately go away within a short while because they aren’t concerned for the souls of those in Haiti. Once they’ve done their “humanitarian deed” and puffed themselves up, they will go away.
Christians have been going to Haiti and all over the world, quietly doing good, all the time, because they have a higher, true calling, which doesn’t go away when the belly is filled. Though, they fill it anyway.
None of what you just said made a lick of sense.
1. Months ago “no one cared about Haiti”? Can you provide ANY basis for that statement, or account for the billions in aid they’ve received over the last decade?
2. The Hebrew god is “targeted” by non-christians? Which ones? Those who don’t believe in a Hebrew God to begin with?? If they don’t believe in the Hebrew God, how can they “target” that god for blame??
3. Who exactly ever praised voodoo as either good, innocent or providing for children? Perhaps you’d like to reference some quote? No? Then perhaps instead you’d like to go vent your spleen in a section where your credibility is already so low that it doesn’t make any difference how ridiculous you are? Good idea.
What kind of decent person are you? Why do you keep spreading hate and intolerance on this site? Let me ask you a question: how is it OK for followers of the Hebrew God to justify the death of all these people as the riotous act of their God? That is a sick and twisted thing in my opinion. Maybe the main reason is because it’s Haiti and not America. Your religion doesn’t have the stronghold there yet to my knowledge.
What voodoo in Haiti? Where is this moronic information coming from, Pat Robertson?
Over 95% of Haitians are Christians and were likely praying to God as their homes crumbled about their ears.
Get your head out of your butt.
Non-Christians care because it is a human tragedy. People are hurting and in need of help. Only a cad would think otherwise.
When one person dies, it is not that big of deal.
When a group of people die, it is not that big of a deal.
when thousands die, it is not that big of a deal
When millions die, it is not that big of a deal.
However,
It is a big deal if thousands die in one spot
It is a big deal if millions die in one spot.
Personally,
everyday millions of people die all across the world. Why should I react differently, just because that many died in one spot? Haiti doesn’t matter to me, and it never has.
Sorry, but you are WAY off base here.
The only people that are honestly stating that God had anything to do with it – is Christians, like Pat Robertson.
The people of Haiti are no longer Vodooists. Most are Catholic.
And, last but not least, I have ALWAYS been concerned with Haiti. My heart daily goes out to the millions living in poverty and starvation.
Who said it does?
I know no one there.
I know no one who knows someone who is there.
Therefore — I don’t care. Bad crap happens. I keep my charity here at home, feeding people who are citizens of my nation. If their country did not bother stockpiling and preparing for disaster, that’s on them, not me.
To properly explain and properly understand what the Bible really says about this matter, please read the book of Job. Just the first chapter would be clarifying.
And by the way, who do you think makes the final decision about these things. Do some research in the Bible.
because we have compassion for those who are suffering.
Except the more emotionally removed a people is from us, the more suffering needs to occur before it matters to us emotionally.
Pat Robertson (A Christian) brought your god into the equation. And Secular people have been in Haiti for a long time trying to help, We didn’t all of a sudden just start to care. Really you are just making stuff up with this comment.
Think of all the Catholics who died though – you’re a huge anti-Catholic around here, I’m surprised you’re not saying what the Westboro Baptist Church are, that they’re being punished for worshipping idols or some such nonsense.
Our money is going to be sent to the corrupt government of Haiti in order to ‘help them rebuild’. We have got to help, but the help isn’t actually going to get there. Every American should be concerned about this.

Because people are dying and everyone cares about that, christian or not.
It’s sickening to see some comments as “God warned you, it’s your fault for your sins”.

Both Christianity and Voodoo are nonsense. Building Codes, poverty, etc., are the issues in Haiti.
