The deforestation issue in Haiti is largely the result of poverty and unregulated use of natural resources for many years. The political unrest in Haiti has crippled the economy, and the negative media representation of the country discourages tourism, making it more difficult to make money through beach resorts.
in a nutshell Haitians use wood to make charcoal for cooking no restraints were in place so they cut down most everything. when the AIDS epidemic struck it was widely attributed to origination to a large degree in haiti which effectively killed tourism.
i think it’s due to an economical reason, Haiti is a poor country compared to DR (althought DR has some money problems too) so i guess dominician rep can afford to fix their deforestation problem, unlike haiti
good question though.
