I know that some of you are really really into pop culture and you feel you absolutely MUST adhere to George Clooney’s political views, but for the average Joe, the unwashed masses, how does the idea of millionaires riding limos in expensive gowns costing thousands of dollars to demand attention so they can raise a fraction of what the concert will cost to put on with maybe even a fraction of that actually reaching haiti make you fee?

  1. Reid's Light Skinned Negr0 Says:

Like most liberals, they are hypocrites. They’ll get on TV and beg for money and at least one of those spoiled brats will badmouth our country or George Bush or capitalism, thus insulting those who they’re trying to get to contribute. I’m not watching to find out, but you’ll know we’ll hear about it tomorrow.

  2. Jerry Says:

These questions sicken me. Obama just lost a democrat seat. That should be good for republicans.
So what do you do next .. criticize every charity sent to Haiti .
First of all, people say that the Government shouldn’t donate so many tex dollars to Haiti.
The celebrities put on a free concert, and each participant personally donates to the charity- Because lets face it. Performing is what these people DO FOR A LIVING.
Now here are other criticizing this as well.
The point of the concert was so that everybody can give so that NOBODY HAS TO GO BROKE.
If average Joe doesn’t donate his whole salary to Haiti, why should George Clooney ?

  3. Anonymous Says:

Some people need a telethon to get them motivated, so I guess it’s OK in that way. But I’d rather give charity on my own. I don’t watch telethons, but I did write out a check to my favorite charity last Sunday for Haiti. All people should do the same because of the need. But don’t make them feel guilty if they can’t. So I will find something else to do with my wife tonight. Maybe game night or a video. But we should not confine ourself to a one-time donation either. I hope to be able to send another check next payday.

I think it’s a great idea since celebrities are well known and most have followings. All of the performers have donated, either their time or money or both. Because celebs are well known, people will watch to see if their faves will be on. When they watch and see the horrible circumstances, they will feel sad and might donate. George Clooney helped organize this. He does a lot of charity work and I am sure he checked things out to make sure the money goes where needed. I applaud all of the clebrities who have helped and a big thank you to the people who have donated. This is what being American is all about! I’m so proud to be an American because of all the people who reach out and help people in need, even if it’s not from our country.

  5. kimmy85 Says:

Hate them or love them, for whatever reason they are doing it, it’s more than a lot of you are doing, so stop criticizing them! Many of them donated a lot of money, good for them to try to get others to help. This is part of what makes America so wonderful, we are so quick to help others. Nobody would rush to aid us (but we wouldn’t need it as much as almost every other country would), but when others need help, we are the first ones to help. Think of all those orphaned children. How can a person criticize ANYONE who is trying to help them? Shame on you!

back on 7th Feb last year we had the worst bushfires on record in Victoria ( australia) .. and the same time… we had devastating floods in Queensland…
Musicans got together around the country .. and around the world.. and performed two simultaneous concerts ( one In Melbourne and One In Sydney) … to raise money to support the victoms of the Flood. No artist or band charged a fee for their performance
. No artist or band charged a fee for their performance
ALL MONEY RAISED was donated to the Red Cross.. and then later in the year.. a DVD of the concert was releases and again ALL MONEY RAISED went to the Red Crosshttp://www.soundrelief.com.au/funds.html… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_Relie… ( check out some of the artists who performed.. I am sure you will know some of them .. Taylor Swift being one)
Other artists who were touring or about to tour also donated thousands upon thousands of dollars , PINK being one.
If the celebrities at your telephone behave as those who performed at our SOUND RELIEF concerts.. and didn’t charge for their appearance… then It has merits…
If you can get a copy of the Sound Relief Concerts on DVD.. it’s worth it.. and also the money STILL goes to the Red Cross

I donated directly to my charity of choice.
I think most people should pick a charity based on their beliefs, and whether that charity has a good track record of getting those donations to the people they’re serving.
Check out Charity Navigator to see how your charity ranks: http://www.charitynavigator.org/
Though I do recall watching the Katrina celebrity telethon where Kanye went off on Bush hating black people, and was dying watching Mike Myers as he tried to keep from staring at Kanye in disbelief.

  8. barry Says:

most likely they are there doing it for free publicity, then again a few of them might actually care and are trying to do there part. i for one do not watch those things. i believe if they really wanted to care they could go fly down to haitie and actually do real work and get there hands dirty. instead of trying to show the world how much they care, i seen punk’d about 96% of them people are @$$ holes.

  9. timetrav Says:

The bible tells you to give generously, but to not brag about it. That is the difference between Hollywood stars like Oprah and people like Bill Gates. They both give tons of money, but one of them lets the world know how generous they are.

  10. Rajaboot Says:

I have a hard time following or caring what celebrities do even if it’s slightly beneficial. But I agree it’s very self serving and narcisitic and we all know only a fraction of the money raised will reach Haiti.

  11. Poopy Pants Says:

I am for it, anytime you can raise money to help the needy, is a good thing.

  12. Ms. Nancy Says:

I don’t mind celebrities doing these arrogant things to rid themselves of guilt for living in such opulence, but I do mind them advocating for Marxism to rid their guilt.

  13. The Red Star Against Capitalism Says:

I think they do it as an ego trip, but if it raises money for a good cause, you can’t dispute that, regardless of motives

  14. portia Says:

It seems like a waste of time. If they really want to help why don’t they just write a check. They must really be starved for the publicity.

  15. McOldie Says:

It is an effective way to raise money where the situation is desperate.
You sound rather Marxist in your opinion of people who have earned a lot of money.

  16. billy B Says:

psuedo-humanitarian limo liberals….makes me kinda sick

I just wish we could air-drop Hollywood into Europe. They make me puke. I hate having them in my country.

  21. Tamara Washington Says:

will the money rasied be used like “we are the world’ to keep the war going for another generation?

  22. Joseph Says:

Makes me glad I don’t watch tv.

  23. myrrdin 810 Says:

i think it makes me feel that you don’t give credit where it’s due. the networks are donating their air time, so that ain’t costing anything… and most of the artists are picking up their own tab for the cost of their shows… and if you ever watched acts like Sheryl Crow or Deep Purple put on a concert from start to finish, you’d know it takes a lot more than the 5 guys in the band a couple hours on stage to accomplish that. it’s a frigging logistical nightmare. there are literally hundreds of people involved. someone’s gotta pay their room and board and travelling expenses and that’s usually the artists themselves.
another thing, in case you’ve only been watching fox so-called “news”, i’m sure they haven’t reported about the MILLIONS of dollars EACH a lot of these celebrities have been ponying up out their own pockets. leo dicaprio (androgynous wimp though he might be), george clooney… and HEY, i just saw REPUBLICAN former mayor of Carmel, CA Clint Eastwood on the box with Matt Damon singing the praises of the fallen UN heroes in Haiti….
heaven knows, the TRUTH might interfere with their political posturing.
the more i hear of the right wing’s reaction to this tragedy, the more i become convinced that ALL republicans, deep down at the bottom of their little black hearts, truly DO see anyone other than white anglo-saxon protestants as all being sub-human members of “the degenerate races” and undeserving of humane compassion.
    GFYS.
THAT’S how it makes me feel.
