I’m very quite understanding of the Bible and how that in The Second Coming of Christ, we are going to see more and more earthquakes like the one that recently struck Haiti amongst other things, If you look around in todays times I think things are getting worse and worse and we haven’t seen nothing yet I think it’s safe to say we are soon approaching The Great Tribulation? Anyone else agree?

Well well, a Bible discussion! To begin with, if you are a studied christian as you imply, you should well know that this is a poor arena to engage in such a profound topic for discussion. People will generally regurgitate what they’ve hear from uneducated others or simply state their personal opinion as you can see from the majority of the responses, however, most people are simply blinded to the reallity that they so adamently claim to have clear view of . I say that because most people who lash out against the bible have never really studied the scriptures and do not really understand, nor have they been taught Gods true purpose for mankind, that it is (not) one of suffering – Rev. 21:3,4. And those who are boastfull about their scientific stand only have a very loose grasp on science and have not discerned the periodic table – The answer to your question (partially) is yes! Now for all of you foolish ones, understand that JEHOVAH the God of all creation does not nor will he ever cause calamity or suffering on anyone, other wise he would not be the God of love – 1 John 4:8. Yet although he may allow for natural events to take their course for now, remember that God controls life force and he can always bring back those who have lost their life in such a calamity, if only you all realized what Jesus was really showing us when performed those wonderfull resurrections as recoreded in the bibile, that death is nothing to God and that he will fullfil his puposes – John 5:28,29. Natural death is only a condition of our imperfect sinful state, death through horrible camality as in Hait is just natural consequence, the earth being active. Now God also wants us to belive in him and see his plans, so on one end he gives us prohpecy which can be proven through actual historical events and artifacts, and also scriptural notice of (composite) signs so that we may all see and turn our attention toward him and not selfish trivial things – 2 Peter: 3,9. Yes there have been natural dister throughout history, but the disasters that are occuring now are parts of many signs Jesus told us about as recorded in Matthew 24. All of theses signs together let us know that the end of this sytem of things (not the earth – psalms 37:29) is closer than we think. Gods end of the world promise will ultimately wipe away sickness, pain, fear, wars, natural disasters as the ones we are seeing, and death itself. the fullfilment of one united earthly family as was started with Adam and Eve, living for ever under perfect conditions, don’t be shocked by that one! The bible really does say that “the meek will inherit the earth and live on it forever”, but of course it will be a very different and much more beautiful place then according to the scriptures. Yes the “heavens are there to with Jesus Chist as king but that’s a hole other explanation… By the “first couple” making their indepentent stand, they also in effect stated that they can do what ever thay wanted, and according to the bibile satan also challenged God saying that we could in effect live with out our creator, so instead of unjustfully destroying everyone at the time and starting over, God let us give it a try and answer the ultimate question for our selves, all the heavenly angels that were wittnessing at the time, and satan too, and look at the world now! Can we really do it with out his guidance? How have we done so far? satan seems to be doing a pretty good job playing with us and trying to make fun of God at the same time would’nt you say? So in conclusion, don’t be dismayed by people who say “you’re nuts” and “full of wild fantasies” or whatever, the fact of the matter is that most people are being decievd and blinded by one who they don’t even think is real, satan – 2 Corinthians 4:4. The world is the way it is because satan is temporarily pulling the strings, but he can only do what we allow him to, the problem is that most of us are all so busy in our own little worlds and at the same time ignoring or denying God that we don’t see he is calling out to us to come into his loving arms. ALL THOSE WHO ARE REASONABLE, KEEP DEEPLY CONTEMPLATING THESE THINGS AND DISCERN THE TRUTH!

There have been catastrophic natural disasters continuously, all the time, every year, for the past several million years. None of them seem to have led to any kind of tribulation, great or otherwise. You dear, are unable to be objective about this event because you’re experiencing it in your lifetime. This makes it SEEM to you as if has greater importance and significance than it necessarily does. It’s a common failing of the very young, and is called “chauvinism”. It’s the belief that everything that happens relates to ones self and ones own time and place in the world and that the only important things are things that relate to you personally. Todays times are a cake-walk compared to prior times. Perhaps you’ve heard of the black plague? Look it up.

  3. Anonymous Says:

first of all, in matthew 24: the most commonly quoted rendition of the “Return of Christ” prophecy, the widely accepted King James Version of the Bible does not say anything about “more” earthquakes, it only says there will be “earthquakes in Diverse places.” It also offers many warnings that say when someone says look at this sign or that sign, “the end is not yet.” All of the scriptures from this passage describe normal everyday activities that people would be engaged in when the harvest of the rapture/armageddon starts. Also, what makes you think that things are getting “worse and worse?” Maybe because we can cure certain types of cancer, or at the very least drastically extend the lives of cancer victims? Just one example that demonstrates that things are getting better rather than worse. There are a lot more, if you will think positive rather than hoping for the world to end. Live life. Love life. Stop looking for something sinister in every natural occurrence.

  4. Heidi Says:

Mathew 24:7 While he was sitting upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, When will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?”
7 “For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.
Armageddon—God’s War to End All Wars
WHO would not love to live in a society where war was “incomprehensible and repulsive”? Who does not long for a world where even the word for war does not exist because warfare is unknown? Such a world may sound far-fetched, especially if we put our hope in humans to bring it about.
However, in the prophecy of Isaiah, God himself promises to bring such a world into existence: “They will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.”—Isaiah 2:4.
Clearly, the world today with its 20 million soldiers on active duty and some 20 wars currently raging would have to change enormously for this promise to be fulfilled. Not surprisingly, the almighty God, Jehovah, would have to intervene in human affairs. This intervention on Jehovah’s part culminates in what the Bible calls Armageddon.—Revelation 16:14, 16.

  5. Shane Says:

    Yes, it is.
Don’t listen to those that don’t have faith in God’s prophecies. The prophecies were not meant for everyone before the Tribulation. You know, in your heart, what the truth is if God has put it there.
The beauty of God’s prophecies is that they always come true, despite what others believe. He provides us with many different signs and “check points” so that those who believe his word understand what is happening. Earthquakes, hurricanes, events in the sky….these are only a small portion of the signs we should look for. This is truly an age where “knowledge has been increased.” Israel exists as a nation once again and there have been major societal changes. God is all-knowing and certainly understood that human nature is skeptical and sinful. None of the signs were meant to stand alone as a predictor of the end, but it doesn’t mean that what we are seeing now aren’t some of the components.
While no one knows the exact hour, God does intend for us to prepare for his return.

  6. jebber Says:

One calamity and the Holy Rollers begin preaching the second coming of Christ… Haiti of Jan 12, Sichuan quake May 12, 2008, Java quake of July 2006, Kashmir quake of 2005, Indian Ocean quake of 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Tropical Storm Allison of 2001, Typhoon Nina in 1975, outbreaks of Ebola, Malaria, XDR TB tuberculosis strain, H1N1 Influenza, SARS epidemic… As soon as these travesties hit, the immediate assumption of the Holy Roller is to jump to the second coming. Bubonic plague was the same damned thing, the church was certain Christ was on his way back… Never showed… Why don’t you review global history and see that these things have always been hitting us humans since day one, and stop worrying about the Tribulation and live your life.

  7. choko_ca Says:

In what book does God say he is going to arbitrarily murder a bunch of poor people on the other side of the globe. Because as I recall, a spherical Earth and the land on the far side of it aren’t mentioned one time in the Bible.
And earthquakes have been happening for billions of years, so I hardly think that even a devestating one means it is time to break out your rapture rations.

  8. sirheins Says:

Yes, clearly things are much worse now, than, say, in the 14th century, when the Black Death killed off a third of the world’s population, and brigands roamed the countryside of Europe raping an pillaging the population — which was overwhelmingly made up of illiterate peasants on the brink of starvation.
    Read a history book, darlin’.

  9. Truth seeker Says:

The entire universe and all the bodies of planets, stars, asteroids, black holes , dark matter, everything is in constant flux.
It is possible the things happening on our planet are happenings as prophets seen foretold. It is also possible it is part of the constant changing universe.

  10. Sarah Says:

Seriously, you people are all the same. Always looking for a reason or an explanation. Gosh. Can’t you just accept that it just IS???
Case in point: Hurricane Katrina. All the churches in Florida, who felt like they were in the hurricane path, prayed to be spared.
Well, what about the people in New Orleans? What makes the people in Florida pray to be spared while the hurricane destroys somewhere else? Do we just see past the end of our nose, and don’t really care about anything else? Ever think about that?
Who really cares about ‘why’ the quake hit? The same energy and time can be spent with relief efforts. Sheesh

  11. I Am Anubis Says:

Earthquakes happen. They have always happened.
More compelling evidence that we are living in the end times is that the nation of Israel is gathered together and occupies a homeland again.

  12. Corey Says:

I do believe that this is an sign from God!
People can say what they want about that or not.
Prophesies aren’t going to tell you what “country” will suffer or be “hit” with disaster.

  13. David Carrington Jr. Says:

I am a Christian, however I have a very fine education. I understand plate tectonics and the natural causes of earthquakes. Stop with the superstition. You are not helping.

  14. June smiles Says:

I’d bet on plate tectonics. The earthquakes, volcanic activity, tsunamis, etc. that we see today are minor compared to those of the past. If anything, the earth is quieting down.

  15. RobynV Says:

things are getting worse? how exactly? natural disasters, war, famine, genocide etc etc. these things have been more or less constant throughout the long sad story that is human history. why is now any different?

  16. Slip Says:

The belief in “Prophecy” is one of the greatest deadweights humanity still drags to this day. Any who says the future is already predicted is basically retarded.

  17. Erika Says:

Statistically speaking most prophecies such as this will be fulfilled given enough time…
For instance, I predict that one day you will die… does this make me a profit, or simply someone with common sense…

  18. apeman60 Says:

I suppose, this is the 3rd earthquake after 250 years later from the first in1751 and the second in1771. How many more earthquake you need to fulfill your understanding of bible?

  19. PaulCyp Says:

It’s possible but the bible also says that nobody, not even The Son of Man knows the hour or the day when the end will happen.

  20. Michael Says:

It’s called tectonic plate shifts, not retribution by god. Otherwise, why were Christians killed too?

  21. Dave Rogers Says:

I do. The experts in this scientific discipline have been predicting it for some years now.

  22. Gluon Says:

It might be. I believe that the earthquake was a seismic shift of land masses along an active tectonic fault line.

  23. ≈ H2O ∇ Says:

It was just an earthquake, no worse than the ones that have been going on since the earth was formed.

  24. Flingershock (Suspended) Says:

I can’t wait for Pat Robertson to open his trap about it.

  25. HereticZ Says:

It’s just another shining example of God’s love.

  26. Darwin Says:

The killing of so many people would indicate the coming of Christ? That’s not a God of love.

  27. Michael Says:

sigh…..SCIENCE…SCIENCE…SCIENCE PEOPLE! fault line was there. No one knew. It happened. My GOD, why does everything have to be about religion!!!!!!!!

  28. Indigo Flame Says:

Where in the Bible does it mention an earthquake in Haiti?

  29. Naoned Says:

I think it’s just an earthquake. These things happens periodically, you know.

  30. pastapop Says:

    Matthew 24

  31. Lincoln6 Says:

From now to Dec. 21, 2012, there will be an unfortunate series of catastrophic events that will ultimately end with the demise of mankind.. Everything is happening as prophesied by the Maya. Forget the second coming of Christ, you need to worry about the return of the feather serpent god Quetzalcoatl who you dismissed as nonsensical bullshit over 500 years ago with your Christianity white boy. You shall die for your ********* and for your I’m right and you’re wrong attitude.. now fall on your knees and beg for mercy.
