Milbury make bad trades? Noooooooo…..
Where do I start?
Zdeno Chara and #2 overall pick to Ottawa( They took Spezza) and some other loser for “Cashin” Yashin.
Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen to Florida for Oleg Kvasha and Mark Parrish
Take back… these would be a good start.
The worst trade in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs not only traded one of the best players from the Leafs but has inflicted the “Curse” that has dogged the Leafs since their last Stanley Cup.
On March 3, 1968 the Toronto Map[le Leafs traded Frank Mahovlich, Pete Stemkowski, and Gary Unger to the Detroit Red Wings for Norm Ullman, Paul Henderson, and Floyd Smith.
The trio from the Leafs would have 37 more NHL seasons and take part in 2 Stanley Cup wins (both by Mahovlich with the Canadiens) while the incoming trio would play for 19 more seasons with no cup wins.
Mahovlich was a perennial all star a regular top ten scorer and a future hall of famer. Unger would go on to become one of the most dependable players on any roster and Stemmer was a fixture on all his teams. Ullman, Henderson, and Smith were just names until the last game of the 1972 Summit Series. When Paul scored a goal that somehow transcends all levels of mediocrity.
Would Leafs have won more cups after 1967? We’ll never know until the curse is beaten.
It’s hard to beat Gretzky or Islanders, but Canadian had their part of dumb thing:
I know there was a story, but when Roy got traded it was dumb; they finally took a good goalie in Price. Between him and 1995, nothing except some good period of medium goaltenders…
Thye didn’T got much out of it. The worst part of it is the effect and the fact they have traded the best one of all time. Roy reinvented goaltending, popularized buterfly style and made NHL what it is today. Trading that goaler and seeing the mere results indicates how bad was the trade.
When the Flyers traded for Eric Lindros in the early nineties. I know he was one of the greatest Flyers while he was part of the team, but to this day even with Forsberg’s current situation I wonder if the Flyers would have been better off keeping all 8 guys (six players and 2 draft picks) they sent for just Lindros.
Great deal for the Nordiques/Avalanche though. Got Forsberg who captured a scoring championship, a Hart trophy and helped them to a few Stanley Cup Championships. Plus one of the draft picks they acquired was later used in the trade they made to get Patrick Roy.
Mikael Renberg for Chris Gratton and they didn’t even have to make the trade! The Flyers signed Gratton as a FA and only traded Renberg out of pity – essentially – for raiding the Lightning. It is also said that they traded Renberg because of his history of injuries. In so doing, they broke up the Legion of Doom line while at its zenith.
The Red Wings haven’t made too many terrible trades. The one that sticks out in my mind though, is a young Adam Oates to St. Louis for a an aging Bernie Federko and and Tony McKegny. Federko scored 52 points in his only season and McKegny only played in 14 games before being traded.
When we traded Joe Corvo and Patrick Eaves to the Hurricanes for Corey Stillman and Mike Commodore. We only had them for a month and they hardly did anything for us. That would definitely be the trade I’d take back.
Blues Stevens to the Devils
Brett Hull to the Stars
Quebville to the Aves
Drake to the redwings
Wamsley to the Flames
Pronger to the Canucks
Poor Blues
boston to san jose thornton for sturm and stuart. the day that happend i almost cried lol. you can say sturm scores 20 plus goals but hes no thornton and sturt is now with the wings lol.
Well the Wings don’t make many trades, and when they do, they’re rarely bad, so I will have to go w/ an acquisition. Mine was when the Wings picked up Bertuzzi.
at least these came in my time that i was pretty pissed about:
Bondra (best cap in caps history) for Brooks laich and future considerations
recently Zubrus for novotny
Colorado
Tanguay for Leopold
at the time it might have seemed good but leopold is just injured way to much its hard to find a month before this seaon that he wasnt injured.
When the Bruins traded away “Jumbo Joe” to San Jose (Joe Thorton). Bruins ended up with Marco Sturm , Brad Stuart , and Wayne Premieau but these players didnt add up to Joe’s caliber.
When the Sharks traded Mikka Kipprusoff to the Flames for Marc-Edouard Vlasic…
Kipper is now a top 5 goalie in the NHL, while Vlasic is like any other defensemen.
